Our Program

Through a variety of dance levels, students have the opportunity to develop their technique, artistry, creativity, confidence, and appreciation for diverse dance styles. From beginning dancers discovering the foundations of movement to advanced dancers refining their skills and developing their individual artistic voices, our program provides meaningful opportunities for students at every level to learn, collaborate, and challenge themselves.

Performance is an essential part of the Wilson Dance experience. Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to share their hard work and creativity with the school and community through two annual dance showcases. Our uppermost levels also have the opportunity to participate in competitions and showcases outside of school, and attend amazing opportunities like the  Disneyland Dancers Workshop. These performances celebrate student achievement, encourage collaboration and professionalism, and provide dancers with valuable experience as performers.

Levels

Dance can  fulfill any of the  any of the following A-G Requirement: Physical Education, Art, Elective 

All dancers must audition for leveled dance classes.

Beginning Dance Class

Beginning Dance is a PE dance option taught by our Bruinettes Coach Ms. Lung. Beginning dance is an introduction to movement where you will build the skills to advance to a leveled class. Beginning dance has the opportunity to perform in the department Spring Showcase.

Intermediate 1/2 Dance Class

Intermediate 1/2  Dance introduces dancers to various style of dance focuses on developing proper technical dance skills and expanding the dancers movement knowledge. Intermediate 1/2 Dance will have the opportunity to work with a professional choreographer and will perform in both the Winter and Spring Showcases. 

Intermediate 3/4 Dance Class

Intermediate 3/4 Dance requires some dance experience, spatial awareness and mastery of basic dance skills.  Intermediate 3/4 Dance will have the opportunity to work with multiple professional choreographers and will perform in both the Winter and Spring Showcases. 

Intermediate 5/6 Dance Class

Intermediate 5/6 Dance requires both experience and technical knowledge of  intermediate dance skills as well as the ability to pick up choreography quickly and mastery of intermediate level dance skills. Intermediate 5/6 Dance will have the opportunity to work with multiple professional choreographers and will perform in both the Winter and Spring Showcases. 

Intermediate Plus 7/8 Dance Team

Intermediate Plus - 7/8 Dance requires mastery of clean leaps and turns, advanced level dance skills a as well as strong performance and musicality skills. Intermediate Plus 7/8 Dance will have the opportunity to work with multiple professional choreographers and will perform in both the Winter and Spring Showcases. As a performance team, Intermediate 7/8 Plus dancers will be expected to contribute to a positive and supportive team environment and will also have opportunities to attend competition and perform at outside events such as Knotts Berry Farm.

Advanced Dance Team

Advanced Dance is our elite performance team. Advanced dancers are required to exabit mastery of high level dance moves and tricks and have excellent flexibility. They must have the ability to pick up choreography and implement corrections quickly and efficiently. Advanced Dancers are expected to have excellent dedication and commitment to their team, and will perform in multiple local and national competitions.
